As you may observe the coral reefs are clean and colorful and the hurricane did not beat the majority of the soft corals, Gorgonians and Sponges that still remain on the reefs. In my opinion Hurricane Isidoro on the year 2002 caused more damage than Emily. On very particular areas the phenomena took away many of the fragile Finger coral (type Porites coral ) and the Lettuce coral ( Type Agaritia Tenuifolia coral ) that was located on the shallow part of the coral formations or even on the top part of the deep corals formations like the end of Punta Sur, some areas in Colombia deep and shallow or Santa Rosa and Punta Tunich. In the following pictures you will observe the big difference in the damage that was done by hurricane Gilbert on 99 % of Cozumel reefs in September 13 of 1988. In spite of hurricane Gilbert and all the divers that visit and dive Cozumel reefs yearly, this corals formations had been steadily recovering their beauty and splendor.
